Jan Kielmann serves as Director of Nutrition at Functional Wellness, an integrative Personalized Nutrition practice in Redlands, Southern California, where he and his team see clients with a wide range of health complaints. His experiences as a clinician, trainer and educator helped shape his interests in Preventive Health, Nutritional Genomics, Environmental Medicine, Botanical Medicine and Mind-Body Medicine.

He graduated from the prestigious University of Bridgeport Program with a Master of Science in Human Nutrition with a focus on Functional Medicine and Biochemistry and was awarded the Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner after obtaining his CNS® certification.

Jan’s special interests in Preventive Health and Personalized Nutrition come from decades of systemic thinking and experiencing the injustice and compounded human suffering associated with declining health caused by uncontrolled chronic disease. The severe difficulties and costs involved in recovering multi-system imbalances in chronically ill patients, despite the best available science and technology led him to rethink the maxime: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. He and his colleagues are now investing most of their time and energy into educating clients, patients, residents and the public on how to prevent chronic degenerative diseases and the occurrence of associated conditions such as cancers, diabetes and dementia before it is too late. With the help of Personalized Nutrition, Environmental Health, Stress reduction and Lifestyle change these goals have become measurable and attainable.

Jan is currently researching and publishing in the “Doctor of Clinical Nutrition” Program at Maryland University of Integrative Health and the “Registered Herbalist” program of the American Herbalist Guild, working on “Botanical agents with Antimicrobial Activity” and “Insights into the new field of Botanicogenomics”, while also exploring Mind-Body based medicines and their influence on mental and physical health. He dreams of a future where Personalized Nutrition, Naturopathic Medicine, Allopathic Medicine and Functional Medicine merge to form one integrative, Nutritional Medicine for the benefit of us all.

Jan grew up in Germany and pronounces his name “Yahn” and his last name “Keehlmahn”.
