Summary
Montana licenses dietitians only, as licensed nutritionists, under an exclusive scope of practice model. An individual must complete requirements aligned with the Registered Dietitian pathway in order to qualify for licensure. Only a licensed nutritionist can provide any form of nutrition care including: nutritional assessment, diagnostic, therapy, evaluation and counseling services. This law does not apply to those licensed in as a health profession whose scope of practice includes nutrition care. Only licensed nutritionists may use the titles “licensed nutritionist” or “nutritionist”.

Qualification Requirements for State Licensure or State Certification:
- Academic: Evidence of registration as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Experience: Evidence of current registration as a registered dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Examination: The Registered Dietitian (RD) examination established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
