Curriculum Overview

There are five distinct categories of coursework requirements that must be met by all Certified Nutrition Specialist® candidates.
  1. Nutrition Science Courses at the Graduate Level (12 semester credit hours*)
  2. Biochemistry Courses at the Graduate/Undergraduate Level (6 semester credit hours)
  3. Physiology/Anatomy Courses at the Graduate/Undergraduate Level (3 semester credit hours)
  4. Clinical or Life Science Courses at the Graduate/Undergraduate Level (12 semester credit hours)
  5. Behavioral Science Course at the Graduate/Undergraduate Level (2 semester credit hours or 30 CEs*)

*These requirements apply to candidates taking the CNS exam in June, 2022 or after. Nine (9) semester credit hours in Nutrition are required for candidates taking the exam prior to the June 2022 exam. Behavioral Science credits are not required for candidates taking the exam prior to the June 2022 exam.
